Precious Metals Trading System
Working for an international energy company, we specified, designed and developed an integrated needs and trade capture system for precious metals. The system operates globally and manages the full life-cycle of precious metal trading from initial requirements identified by procurement, projections of ‘needs’ to support trading, trade capture, contract generation and confirmation tracking, invoice management, market data capture, and flexible reporting facilities.

Portfolio Management for Global Energy Trading Organisation
We were asked to provide portfolio management accountability for a Global Energy Company's IT function to support their global power, emissions and liquid natural gas trading, alongside the sister European gas trading business.  The department had an annual budget in excess of $30m and a team size of over 60 which included permanent, contract and other non-BJSS consultancy staff. The role encompassed a variety of accountabilities, with the key goal to ensure IT delivered to the business objectives, and that the business realised value from their IT spend.

Oil Deal Capture & Scheduling
We were engaged by a global oil company to assist them in replacing a legacy system, capturing on and off exchange deals (outrights, futures, options, deliverables and non-deliverables).  We devised software and hardware architecture to allow for the rapid build of the Core Scheduling Tool (CST) system that provides front office operators the ability to schedule physical oil movements around the world.  We delivered to aggressive timescales, managing the project from Inception through to Transition.

Disaster Recovery Design and Delivery
BJSS was engaged to review, design and implement the disaster recovery capability of the core trading platform for a global commodities trading business ensuring that the design and prioritisation of applications supported the business and regulatory requirements.

Trade Control Project for Leading Energy Multi-National
This project was established to deliver business real time exposure and P&L reporting to front and middle office business users in Global Oil Trading. In addition to this was the inclusion of deal assurance and trading limit checks to Trade Control users, and the common source of valuation information to front, middle and back office applications and processes.  BJSS is responsible for the development of the new global pricing engine, a new real-time reporting application used for viewing and adjusting P&L, for all integration with legacy systems, and full functional and non-functional testing.

Integration Consulting & Delivery for Middleware Projects
We have been engaged by a number of clients in relation to the remediation and delivery of integration platforms. A key example of this was for a major oil company where BJSS managed a number of middleware projects, most notably the delivery of a new platform (Tibco & JAVA) to underpin all global supply and trading activities. Responsible for its delivery, BJSS occupied key roles within the project, including project and delivery management, technical architecture, environment management and technical testing roles.

Gas and Power Trading Platform Strategy (GTEL)
As part of the renewal of our client's Gas and Power trading platform, BJSS was engaged to conduct a major systems review programme to select a best-of-breed commercial 'off-the-shelf' Energy Trading & Risk Management system. The replacement system was required to support the business growth agenda and enable significant business benefit and cost savings through process improvement and systems estate simplification.  We managed an intensive selection process, engaging with business stakeholders of all levels across Front, Middle and Back Office to aggressive time scales, culminating in the structuring and planning of a $30M Programme. 

Global Oil Engineers’ Toolkits
A global oil company experienced difficulties implementing a strategy to deploy analytical toolkits to their 1000+ engineers globally.  The company’s goal was to develop a range of PC-based toolkit applications for their engineers to use on their desktops to carry out detailed analysis.  We were asked to define the Toolkit Architecture and to project manage the rewriting of the toolkit to this new architecture.  Development was carried out in an iterative approach by an offshore provider, under the direction of a BJSS Technical Architect. 

Environment Shared Services
BJSS was responsible for the management of a central environments services team supporting all major project deliveries across their supply and trading business. As part of this engagement, BJSS also managed the work to migrate projects and applications to a core set of shared environments. This supported an annual portfolio of over $300M spread globally across 3 business units.

Billing Adjustment Calculator for UK Energy Provider
Our client was looking for a partner to support them in developing a billing adjustment calculator for their electricity trading business. The intensive nature of their existing manual process meant they were finding it difficult to grow the business or introduce new products and were looking for an automated solution capable of consolidating data from multiple internal systems to maximise the efficiency of the billing run. With the help of BJSS’ technical expertise and consultative approach, the client agreed upon a collaborative plan to evolve their current processes while BJSS developed the software solution.
